Our Year 3 and 4 students attended a three day camp to Camp Manyung in Mt Eliza from the 27th til the 29th July 2009.  Eighty-five of our students attended along with six staff members and six parent helpers.  Everyone had a great time and many students experienced the giant swing and flying fox for the first time.  Other activities included bicycle riding, bush cooking, archery, beach activities, UHF radio and Red Faces.  We also had a visit from the Wild Action Zoo who talked to us about some of Australia's native reptiles and a couple of other animals and birds.  Thank you to everyone who helped and supported the camp.

The Honourable John Lenders Opens Our New Library and Classroom

img 9707Glenferrie Primary has a brand new facility recently opened by the honourable John Lenders on the 28th April 2009. The building was funded in a joint venture between the Victorian government and Glenferrie primary school council. The complex of four classrooms and a Library provides for the growing number of students at Glenferrie Primary. The Federal governments’ Green voucher grant was used to install 5 waters tanks which can be used to water the school gardens. The tanks harness the water from the roof of the new building. This project is a example of how the government and community can work together to enhance state schools and provide students with excellent facilities.

Legacy: Schools' ANZAC Day Ceremony

ANZAC pic 2On Thursday 23rd April, Year 6 students represented the school at the Legacy Commemorative ANZAC Day Service at the Shrine of Remembrance as part of the ANZAC Day ceremonies.  Two students placed a wreath next to the Eternal Flame on behalf of Glenferrie Primary and another two students proudly held the school banner during the service. Each Year 6 student was presented with a sprig of thyme, a miniature Australian flag and a badge. One student proudly wore his Grandfather’s WW1 and WW2 medals and another wore Mrs Laurent’s father’s medals from WW2. All students helped carry the wreaths from near the Eternal Flame to a special commemorative olive tree garden at the Shrine. Thanks to Mrs. Scully for attending the day with Mr Curtis and Mrs Laurent. The students were wonderful as usual.
