In December this year (2009), in Copenhagen, the world will negotiate a new global agreement on greenhouse gas emissions. Scientists have agreed that 350ppm is the upper limit of greenhouse gases that our atmosphere can safely hold. To show support for this target, people from all over the world joined together in a day of global action. The day was about small, local community events to support the global target of 350ppm (parts per million). School communities around the world joined in on this day of action. Many schools in Australia including Glenferrie Primary School participated. The nominated day for Australian schools was Friday 23rd October. At Glenferrie Primary School we made a short film at lunchtime. We used our icy pole sticks from icy pole Friday to create a giant 350 sign. Students wrote whatever messages about the environment they liked on their sticks. This was an important day because the meeting in Copenhagen will affect young people the most. We had fun and were part of a global movement. The short film we made was sent to the meeting at Copenhagen to show that Glenferrie Primary cares about the environment and our future. Click on either of the following links to see the final short film.
